Dennis is an open source enthusiast and a passionate software developer with over 20 years coding experience, and surprisingly an outstanding entrepreneur who loves running during his free time. Because of his love for computers, he spent most of his holidays and pocket money playing computer games at Sarit center. He was introduced to computers at an early age; started with 80128 PCs, which was running MS dos and windows 2.0, and with that he learned using Word Perfect, DBase III and QBasic.
He attended Kagumo high school completing in 1995. He joined Strathmore College in 1996 for IDPM diploma in the era of Z386 and Z486 computers. He embraced software development and started of with Windows 95 coding in Visual basic 5 and visual C++ tutored by Dr. Sevilla on Saturdays at the time. In 1997, he joined Moi University in Eldoret for a bachelors degree in Technology, Electrical and Communications Engineering, Digital Communications and Microprocessor Engineering; completing in 2002.
At the university, together with like-minded enthusiasts he founded COMMIT, a computer club, which handled projects, like maintaining the computer labs and keeping them open at night for use and organizing how students would get assembled computers and learn. Here, he toyed with digital circuits, repaired 8080 machines and used the 8086 chips on a board to run low-level machine language functions. An exciting project he spearheaded was the creation of a Swahili programming language and writing of a Swahili font.
In the year 2000 while still in college together with his friends Francis Otieno and Pharis Mwangi they formed and registered DewCIS Solutions, to facilitate them get payments for some of the projects they had done for Nakuru High School and Baraton University.
DewCIS Solutions Limited is an Information & Technology services company formed in 2000 and incorporated 2003 as a private limited company in Kenya. Located in the Nairobi Central Business District, the firm now employs 40 staff on a gender ration of 40/60 employed on full-time in a safe, modern working environment with legal employment contracts including paid leave and group company healthcare. DewCIS is committed to creating an environment that respects diversity and individuality. OpenBaraza Framework project is an open source platform useful for rapid development prototypes for business projects employing XML mapping for the user interface and the underlying database. The project currently has over 10 active projects all hosted at source forge; HR, Payroll, Time and attendance, Projects, Business, University Management, Sacco, banking, Chama among others.
CodePamoja was a project that aims to train and mentor software developers in Kenya by creating collaboration with European developers based on Agile by Scrum development methodology.
